Terms of Service
Last updated: August 30, 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a contract between you and Sorella ("we", "us"), operating from France, when you use the Sorella mobile application (the "Service"). Please also read our Privacy Policy: it explains what data we hold and why.
By creating an account or otherwise using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who can use Sorella
- Sorella is a support space between women. By creating an account you confirm this space is yours; the sisters' charter you accept at first use includes this commitment.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be able to form a binding contract in your country of residence.
- You may only hold one account at a time.
- You may not use the Service if we have previously terminated your account for a breach of these Terms.
3. Not medical advice
Sorella is peer support, not medical care. Conversations, articles and journal prompts inside the app are for community and informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
If you have a medical question, talk to a qualified healthcare professional. If you are in crisis or someone's life is at risk, call your local emergency number or one of the crisis lines listed in the app under the safety screen.
Sorella supports peer connection around women's lived health experience broadly, including experiences such as recovering from a surgery or waiting for a diagnosis, not only the conditions listed in the app.
When you describe what you're going through in your own words, Sorella uses an automated language model to suggest neutral "facets" of your experience (an event, a body area, a state) so we can match you. These facets describe experience, never a diagnosis, and only the facets you explicitly confirm are used for matching. If your words suggest you may be in immediate danger, the app shows crisis resources before anything else; this automated check is a safety courtesy, not medical triage, and you must not rely on it (or on its absence) as an assessment of risk.
4. Your account
- Choose a strong password (the app enforces a minimum standard).
- Keep your credentials confidential: you are responsible for activity on your account.
- Use your real date of birth. We use it only to confirm you are 18+ and (with your permission) to show your age to matches.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms.
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete my account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible: your profile, chats, messages, Circle posts and avatar are erased. Reports you submitted may be retained for safety audit purposes (see the Privacy Policy).
5. Acceptable use
When you use Sorella you agree not to:
- Pretend to be someone you are not, or impersonate a medical professional you are not.
- Harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate other users.
- Post or send content that is hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, violent or otherwise inappropriate for a women's health peer-support context.
- Solicit, advertise, sell or promote products, services, treatments or supplements, including affiliate links and pyramid schemes.
- Share content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other intellectual-property rights.
- Collect, scrape, or otherwise process information about other users, whether automatically or manually, outside of normal use of the Service.
- Share another user's identifying information (full name, address, employer, photos of their face, etc.) without their consent. This is doxxing and is taken seriously.
- Use the Service to coordinate or encourage self-harm, eating disorders, or violence against yourself or others.
- Attempt to bypass our matching limits, retention windows, premium gates or any other technical control.
- Probe, scan, reverse-engineer or otherwise interfere with the Service or its security.
We will remove content, end matches and terminate accounts that, in our reasonable judgement, breach these rules.
6. Stay anonymous, protect each other
Sorella is anonymous by design. Please do not share, and please do not ask another sister for, your name, address, phone number, social-media handles, employer or photos of your face. Hospitals, diagnoses, treatments, side-effects and feelings are all fine to talk about: that is the whole point of the app.
7. Reporting and blocking
You can report or block any user from the chat or Circle screens. We review reports in good faith and act when a clear breach is found. Reports about self-harm are escalated to our safety on-call.
False or malicious reporting is itself a breach of these Terms.
8. Subscriptions (Sister+)
Sorella offers an optional paid tier called Sister+ which unlocks unlimited 1:1 matches, the ability to join and post in Circles, matching filters, and extended chat retention. The current scope of free vs. Sister+ is described in the app.
When billing is enabled:
- Purchases are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play according to their terms; refunds, cancellations and price changes are governed primarily by those platforms.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them from your device's subscription settings.
- We will display the current price, billing cadence and renewal date before you purchase.
- Trials, if offered, are described at the point of purchase.
If you are in the EU/UK you have a statutory right of withdrawal for 14 days. By starting to use Sister+ features during that period you acknowledge that performance of the contract has begun, and we proportionally bill for the period used.
Status note. Billing is not yet enabled. Sister+ plan changes happen via an internal toggle for product testing; no money is collected. These Terms will be updated to reference the live billing system before paid plans launch.
9. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you post: chat messages, Circle posts, journal entries, avatars. By posting content you grant Sorella a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, transmit and display that content solely to operate the Service (for example, delivering a 1:1 chat or rendering a Circle feed). The licence ends when you (or we) delete the content.
We do not use your content to train AI models or for any purpose beyond running the Service and keeping it safe.
10. Our content
The Sorella name, brand, design system, code and editorial content (article copy, prompts, journal templates) are owned by Sorella and its licensors. You may not copy or repurpose them outside of normal use of the app without our written permission.
Open-source components used in the app retain their respective licences.
11. Service availability
We do our best to keep the Service running but we provide it on an "as-is, as-available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, that defects will be corrected, or that the Service will meet any particular requirement. We may add, change or remove features over time.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Statutory consumer rights that cannot be excluded by contract are not affected.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sorella and its team are not liable for:
- indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages;
- loss of profit, data, goodwill or business opportunity;
- the actions, content or omissions of other users;
- decisions you make based on information you encountered in the app.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) €50 or (b) the amount you paid us for Sister+ in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Sorella harmless against claims, damages and costs arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service, to the extent permitted by law.
15. Termination
You can terminate this contract at any time by deleting your account.
We can terminate or suspend your access if (a) you breach these Terms, (b) we reasonably suspect fraud or abuse, or (c) we are required to do so by law. Where the breach is minor and curable we will, when practical, give you a chance to fix it first.
Sections that by their nature should survive (3, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17) survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought before the competent French courts, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings before your local courts, in which case those rights apply.
EU consumers may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material we will notify you in-app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continued use of the Service after the change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you can delete your account before the change takes effect.
